Band Parents Scholarship
Each year the West Milford Highlander Band Parents Association awards a limited number of scholarships to deserving members of the Highlander Marching Band each year. Below and attached is information regarding the scholarship application process including the qualifications and selection requirements. Both the application and the essay must be mailed.
Please remember that the Band Parents Association awards these scholarships for the student's contributions above and beyond regular band responsibilities. The scholarship committee will carefully review all applications and essays. We will make selections according to the criteria. The decision of the scholarship committee is final.
To qualify for consideration, the student must be in good standing and meet the following requirements:
Participation in the Highlander Marching Band for four years.
Note: Transfer students may count their participation in another high school band program.
Submit with application, an essay addressing:
“What the Highlander Band Experience Has Meant to Me.”
Apply to an institution of higher learning, including a 2 or 4 year college, trade school, etc. The applicant need not be a music major to be a recipient of the Band Parents Scholarship.
Criteria for selection include:
Contributions to the band above and beyond regular responsibilities expected of all members.
A high level of citizenship and character.
Potential for continued success, as indicated by high school record, personal motivation, and leadership qualities.
Support of the many activities and programs of the band as a whole, including four years of fundraising participation.
The essay should address the criteria and provide other important information that will assist the committee in making a decision.
NOTE: Financial needs, the receipt of other scholarships, grade point average, or activities outside of band are not prime considerations for choosing recipients.
